Unlimited Characters are generally more powerful versions of the normal characters. Every character has an unlimited form that can be selected in the Character Select Screen. However, unlimited characters are only permitted in Versus Mode, Training Mode, Legion Mode (to an extent), and online play. Unlimited characters can either be unlocked by purchasing downloadable content for the character, by beating Arcade Mode with the respective character in BlazBlue: Calamity Trigger (Ragna, Rachel, Hakumen, and Nu only), by beating the Score Attack Mode with the respective character in BlazBlue: Continuum Shift, by purchasing them in the Gallery in the portable ports of BlazBlue: Continuum Shift II and Extend, or beating Unlimited Mars Mode with the respective character in BlazBlue: Chronophantasma. Unlimited forms of DLC characters are automatically unlocked.

  • In BlazBlue: Continuum Shift, Unlimited Lambda -No. 11- does not exist. Instead, unlimited Lambda is replaced by Unlimited Nu -No. 13-.
  • In BlazBlue: Continuum Shift II and Extend, if certain conditions are met in Arcade mode, Unlimited Mu -No. 12- or Unlimited Ragna can be fought depending on the character. Some characters cannot fight them at all.
  • In BlazBlue: Continuum Shift II and BlazBlue: Continuum Shift Extend, all Unlimited characters are based on their BlazBlue: Continuum Shift counterparts, with the exception of Mu in Extend, who keeps her changes. In BlazBlue: Chronophantasma, the characters now have their updated balance changes and have been reworked, but as of the 1.01 patch, they retain the original 1.00 balancing.
  • In BlazBlue: Chronophantasma, the characters have the Overdrive versions of their Distortion Drives as the default versions. Generally speaking, all characters have Overdrive active by default.
  • In BlazBlue: Chronophantasma, Unlimited character's Overdrives last much longer and all have the same effect for each character: higher damage output, gradual Heat gain, and access to a very powerful Distortion.
  • In the Act 3 of BlazBlue: Centralfiction, if certain conditions are met, the player will fight Unlimited Ragna, Unlimited Konoe, or Unlimited Izanami. The player's opponent is randomly picked.
