BlazBlue: Bloodedge Experience, the latest light novel spin-off for the fighting game franchise, was recently released in Japan on June 20.
To commemorate the novel's release, 4Gamer met up with BlazBlue series creator Toshimichi Mori along with Bloodedge Experience's author Mako Komao for a little chat about the newly-released book and also the fighting game franchise in general.
Most of this interview was about the BlazBlue: Bloodedge Experience as well as the other light novel spin-offs for the franchise, so we won't go into detail for that.
But what some of you BlazBlue fans may find interesting is the story that Mori shared about how the character Makoto Nanaya came to be -- she was created to fill a gap.
“ | ...I'm not an expert on the "yuri" genre or anything, but I think I can reveal now that initially, Tsubaki was going to be a lesbian character to the point that she'd often go "I love Noel!" | ” |
Mori said, in response to a remark the 4Gamer editor made, about how it's quite unfortunate that there are no yuri characters in the BlazBlue series, as Mako Komao happened to be a renowned Yuri fiction author.
“ | However, mid-way while writing the plot for BlazBlue, I realized that I couldn't quite make it work. So in the end I changed it so that she had affections for Jin instead. This created a gap of sorts. To fill that gap, I created Makoto Nanaya, and the rest is history. Anyway, it looks like I'm just not capable of writing yuri fiction, I suppose." | ” |
