The large sword (大剣 taiken) was a weapon of Ragna the Bloodedge.

Information

In its default form, this weapon takes the form of a sword with a large blade – Ragna uses this form most of the time. The weapon can take a form of a scythe with a crimson blade.

Ragna inherit the sword and his red jacket from Jūbei, who took them from the rubble of the burnt church. According to Jūbei, these items belonged to Bloodedge, a hero of the Great Dark War who sacrificed himself to stop the Black Beast for a year.

During the events of BlazBlue: Chronophantasma, Rachel Alucard sent Ragna back in time to the First Great Magic War, where it turned out that he is Bloodedge. Before his first fight with the Black Beast, Ragna gave his jacket to Celica A. Mercury, and after the fight Mitsuyoshi brought her the sword. She kept those items until her death, waiting for Ragna to come back as he promised.

It is unknown where the sword and jacket originated from, and it is also unknown where he got another sword and jacket after he left them in the past.

Before Ragna went through the Gate, he left his sword at the entrance. Later, for some reason it was back at the grave of the sister. The next time the grave was shown, the sword wasn't there.

Trivia

  • In early concept designs, the sword was much more similar in design to the swords that float around the Murakumo Units.
  • The name of this weapon is actually unknown:
    • Usually, it is called "Ragna's large sword" (ラグナの大剣 Raguna no taiken). This name was also used in the BlazBlue Unlimited VS trading card game.
    • The name "Blood Scythe" (ブラッドサイズ Buraddo Saizu) first appeared in BlazBlue: Calamity Trigger, where in one of Ragna's alternate endings. In BlazBlue: Chronophantasma Ragna has a new attack with the same name, which suggest it's a name of scythe form only. In the game Phantasy Star Online 2 it is possible to buy items that will make the player's character look like Ragna, and in this game his sword is also called "Blood Scythe".
    • Ragna appears as a guest character in the game Fantasy War Tactics, and his sword is called "Aramasa" (アラマサ) there. In Japanese mythology, Orochi no Aramasa is a sword that Takehaya Susanoo no Mikoto used to kill the eight headed snake Yamata no Orochi. Susanoo found the Kusanagi no Tsurugi sword inside one of Yamata's tails.
  • Alpha -No. 01- is shown with the scythe form of this weapon on one of her artworks.
