The Stylish Type (スタイリッシュタイプ Sutairisshu Taipu) is a control scheme available from BlazBlue: Continuum Shift onwards. It is geared for beginning players, and it automatically turns every sequence of buttons into basic combos.

The Stylish Type changed drastically with each main installment of BlazBlue, and in BlazBlue: Centralfiction it essentially became a variation of the Technical Type with shortcuts for some special attacks.

BlazBlue: Continuum Shift[]

In BlazBlue: Continuum Shift, the attack buttons for Stylish Type (which is also called Beginner Mode in this game) are N (Normal; A in Technical), H (Heavy; B in Technical), S (Special; C in Technical), and T (Throw; D in Technical). N and H stand for normal attacks, that, when mashed consecutively, will form combos. The S button used with a directional input stands for special attacks.

BlazBlue: Chronophantasma[]

In BlazBlue: Chronophantasma, the attack buttons for Stylish are L (Light; A in Technical), N (Normal; B in Technical), H (Heavy; C in Technical), and S (Special; D in Technical). L, N and H will trigger normal attacks, that, when mashed consecutively, will form combos. The S button used with a directional input stands for special attacks.

  • Only Barrier block is available in Stylish Type, it is performed automatically.
  • Throws and Throw Escapes are performed by pressing N+H, or backwards+N+H.
  • Recovery actions are performed by pressing L, N or H (with directional inputs).
  • Crush Trigger is performed by pressing L+N.
  • Break Bursts are performed by pressing L+N+H+S while taking damage.
  • Overdrives are performed by pressing L+N+H+S.
  • Distortion Drives are performed by pressing direction with L+N.
  • Astral Heats are performed by pressing L+N while holding the “backwards” directional input.

BlazBlue: Centralfiction[]

In BlazBlue: Centralfiction, the attack buttons for Stylish are the same as the Technical buttons: A, B, C and D, but there is also the special SP button. The SP button is used to perform some of the special attacks, but it is possible to perform them with their Technical inputs as well. Check the characters’ move lists in the game to see which attacks have SP-shortcuts. This version of Stylish also has the Barrier autoguard from the previous game.

  • Distortion Drives are performed by holding the SP button with A, B, or C, and occasionally they also require a directional input.
